COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Motor Traffic’s Emissions Division has revealed that 50 percent of diesel vehicles undergoing inspection have been identified as emitting harmful black smoke.
Director of the Emissions Division, Dasun Janaka Gamage, stated that around 1,000 vehicles suspected of emitting black smoke have been inspected so far this year.
He further noted that inspections have been intensified across 12 districts with high vehicle usage, with mobile teams deployed to carry out the checks.
Vehicles identified as emitting harmful black smoke are given a period of 14 days to rectify the condition.
The Emissions Division also stated that legal action will be taken against vehicle owners who fail to correct the defects within the given timeframe, and such vehicles will be blacklisted.
