Chinese Trio Arrested, Rs. 5.14 Mn Worth Mobile Devices Seized

COLOMBO (News 1st); Three Chinese nationals have been taken into custody by Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake while attempting to illegally bring a stock of mobile phones and related batteries into the country.

Those arrested include a 34-year-old Chinese national woman and two Chinese national men aged 35.

Customs officials stated that the seized consignment is estimated to be worth approximately Rs. 5.14 million.

Authorities recovered a total of 87 mobile phones along with 140 batteries intended for use with the devices.

The suspects had reportedly arrived in Sri Lanka from Shanghai, China, according to Customs officials.
