CID Launches Probe Into Foreign Cybercrime Suspects

COLOMBO (News 1st);The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into foreign nationals arrested in connection with cybercrimes.

The CID and the Department of Immigration and Emigration apprehended these foreign nationals while they were engaged in cybercriminal activities at several locations. They were taken into custody while staying in undercover buildings in Kollupitiya, Puttalam, and Colombo areas over the past few months.

Police seized a large number of devices, including computers and mobile phones, found in their possession.

Meanwhile, the Department of Immigration and Emigration says foreigners arriving from the same countries as those arrested over cybercrimes will face special screening at the airport.

The department further added that a separate investigation is also being conducted regarding foreign nationals currently residing within the country.
