Constable Arrested for Fraud From Police Reward Fund

COLOMBO (News 1st); A police constable has been arrested for allegedly misappropriating Rs. 3,540,415 from the Police Reward Fund, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody by officers of the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau.

According to police, the constable was attached to the Mount Lavinia Police Headquarters, where he was responsible for handling financial matters.

Police stated that plans are underway to file charges against the suspect under the Public Property Act and produce him before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, further investigations are also being carried out to determine whether other officers had aided or abetted the fraud or failed in their responsibilities in connection with the financial loss.
