COLOMBO (News 1st); Former State Minister Premalal Jayasekara, who was taken into custody, has been released on bail following his production before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court today.
The court ordered the suspect’s release on Rs. 25,000 cash bail and a personal bond amounting to Rs. 1 million.
The Magistrate further directed that the suspect’s foreign passport be impounded.
The court also warned that any attempt to influence witnesses would result in the cancellation of bail conditions.
The former State Minister was arrested in connection with a complaint alleging that he had threatened an individual by displaying his pistol during an altercation between two groups. The incident reportedly occurred when the suspect was visiting Nuwara Eliya with his family members yesterday.
Following the complaint, Premalal Jayasekara was arrested by officers attached to the Crimes Investigation Division of the Nuwara Eliya Police.
The case is scheduled to be taken up again on October 9.
