Former MP Chandana Kathriarachchi To Be Detained For 30 Days

COLOMBO (News 1st):Police state that steps are being taken to detain and interrogate former Member of Parliament Chandana Kathriarachchi, for a period of 30 days after he was arrested for the possession of firearms and explosives, .

Police further noted that the initial 72-hour interrogation period granted ends today.

The former MP was arrested recently by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).

The arrest was made in connection with the discovery of a stock of ammunition, including 221 T-56 bullets, two T-56 magazines, and a hand grenade at his residence in Piliyandala.

It has been revealed that the live hand grenade in question was manufactured in Czechoslovakia.

A 12-bore firearm, which had been issued for a cultivation land belonging to the MP, was also taken into police custody.

Chandana Kathriarachchi last represented the Parliament through the People's Alliance (PA), and in the recent General Election, he contested from the Colombo District representing the New Democratic Front.
