Navy Seizes Drug Smuggling Vessel Off Southern Coast

COLOMBO (News 1st); The multi-day fishing vessel seized by the Navy while transporting a suspected drug shipment has been brought to the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbor.

The Sri Lanka Navy said further investigations will be carried out now that the drug shipment has been brought ashore.

The Navy also said that four suspects on board the vessel have been arrested.

The vessel was seized in deep seas off the southern coast of the country yesterday while transporting the suspected drugs.

Navy Media Spokesperson, Commander Buddhika Sampath, said the vessel was intercepted during a special operation carried out by long-range operational vessels.
