Police Probe Audio clips alleging plot against Boossa Prison inmate

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Police have launched an investigation into several audio clips circulating on social media about a plot to assassinate Dematagoda Chaminda, an organized criminal currently held at Boossa Prison.

The Central Crime Investigation Bureau is carrying out the investigation under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Kamal Ariyawansa, following instructions from the IGP.

Accordingly, based on an order from the Aluthkade No. 5 Magistrate’s Court, police are set to record statements from Boossa Prison jailers, the prison superintendent, and Dematagoda Chaminda.

Initial investigations have found that the story may be a rumor created by Chaminda’s group.

Investigators also believe the death threat story was spread to stop plans to transfer Chaminda from Boossa Prison to the Welisara Navy Camp.

Further investigations will be conducted against those who shared information about this incident on social media.

Dematagoda Chaminda, who has been sentenced to death for the murder of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, is currently detained at Boossa Prison.
