COLOMBO (News 1st);The Lanka Coal Company, which was awarded the tender for the emergency purchase of coal, has announced that its coal shipments will begin arriving in the country from the 20th of April.
According to its General Manager, Namal Hewage, the ships are scheduled to arrive between the 20th of April and the 10th of May, with a total of five vessels bringing coal under this arrangement. Each ship is expected to carry 60,000 metric tons of coal, imported from South Africa.
Meanwhile, the company, which has an ongoing agreement to supply coal to the Norochcholai Power Plant, has already delivered 13 ships to the country.
Hewage added that agreements have been finalized for 4 more shipments to follow in the future.
