COLOMBO (News 1st) - An individual was arrested for posting videos on Facebook claiming there is a fuel shortage in the country and urging foreign tourists not to visit the country.
The suspect was apprehended by The Central Crime Investigation Bureau following a complaint lodged by the Tourism Development Authority.
The arrested individual is a 52-year-old resident of Kandy Road, Wattegama.
Authorities said that the suspect was taken into custody as the actions deemed adverse to the tourism industry and inculcating anti-state activities in the country.
The Central Crime Investigation Bureau confirmed that charges will be filed against the suspect in court for presenting false, indecent, or rebellious messages and communicating rumors intended to cause public fear or civil unrest.
