No Crescent Sighted in Sri Lanka; Eid Moves to Saturday, March 21

COLOMBO (News 1st); The crescent moon (Hilal) marking the beginning of the month of Shawwal 1447 AH was not sighted on Thursday, March 19, 2026, according to reports received from Hilal subcommittees appointed across Sri Lanka, said the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama.

In an official announcement, the Hilal Division of the All Ceylon Jamiathul Ulama (ACJU), together with the Colombo Grand Mosque and the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs (DMRCA), unanimously declared that the month of Ramadan 1447 AH will complete 30 days.

As a result, the first day of Shawwal 1447 AH will fall on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
