Sampath Manamperi Remanded Until March 4

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Walasmulla Magistrate, Malsha Kodituwakku, today ordered the remand of Sampath Manamperi until 4 March.

He was produced before court after being held under a 90-day detention order by the Western Province North Crimes Division. 

Police informed the court that investigations into the suspect had been completed.

Manamperi was arrested in connection with the discovery of two containers holding raw materials used to manufacture crystal methamphetamine (Ice). Police told court that laboratory reports have now been received, confirming that 15 kilograms and 19 grams of Ice had been detected.

Two organised crime figures already in remand custody, Tembili Lahiru and Backhoe Saman, were also produced before court today in relation to the same incident. 

Investigating officers told the Magistrate that both individuals would be named as suspects in the ongoing case.

Meanwhile, 13 cases filed by the Middeniya Police and six cases filed by the Weeraketiya Police against Tembili Lahiru were also taken up before the Walasmulla Magistrate, and these were postponed until 11 March.

Police further informed the court that two additional organised crime suspects connected to the incident, Kehelbaddara Pathme and Panadura Nilanga, will be produced before court in due course.
