COLOMBO (News 1st); Two Sri Lankan fishermen who claim they were assaulted by an unidentified group on international waters have been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
Navy Spokesman Commander Buddhika Samapath stated that the injured fishermen were rescued in the southern seas by a Sri Lanka Navy vessel, and brought to the Colombo Port yesterday (4) morning.
They were subsequently transferred to the hospital for further treatment.
The Minister of Fisheries also visited the victims at the Colombo National Hospital yesterday to assess their condition and inquire into the incident.
The fishermen who were attacked had been part of a crew operating on the multi‑day fishing vessel “Sadun Putha 04.”
According to the Navy, the vessel had departed to sea from the Dikwella Harbour several days earlier.
This latest incident follows a separate attack involving fishermen aboard the vessel “Diniti Duwa 01”, who were admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle after being assaulted while at sea.
