An aircraft carrying Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, India, Ajit Pawar has crash-landed at Baramati airport this morning, killing all five people on board, including the Deputy Chief Minister.
The aircraft, operated by VSR and registered as VT-SSK, went down at Baramati while attempting to land.
The occurrence report states that the jet crash-landed at Baramati and that no person on board survived the crash.
Six people were on board the plane, including Pawar and his security staff.
The deputy CM had left from Mumbai early morning to visit Baramati, his hometown, to address four public meetings ahead of the Zilla Parishad polls.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah have spoken to Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadanvis to get details and updates on the situation.
Ajit Pawar entered the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1991 from the Baramati Parliamentary constituency and later gave up the seat for his uncle, Sharad Pawar.
He has won the Baramati Assembly constituency seven times. His first victory came in a 1991 by-election, followed by wins in 1995, 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014.
