Seat Belt Violations Now Subject to Fines

COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Council for Road Safety has confirmed that fines are now being imposed for violations of the seat belt law.

Chairman of the council Manjula Kularatne says that the three-month grace period ended on December 24th.

Accordingly, all drivers and passengers travelling on expressways are now required to wear seat belts.

Drivers and front-seat passengers on all other roads are also required to wear seat belts.

Kularatne added, that police have been instructed to enforce this regulation strictly.
