COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has intensified its crackdown on narcotics, destroying more than 2,384 kilograms of heroin, ICE, cocaine, and other illicit substances seized during raids conducted across 2024 and 2025, Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler announced today.
He confirmed that the operation — one of the largest narcotics disposals carried out in recent years — underscores the police force’s renewed drive under the direct supervision of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to wage an uninterrupted war on drug trafficking throughout 2026.
Detailing the scale of narcotics seized in 2025, ASP Wootler said:
“As a result of last year’s raids, police seized 1,821 kg and 174 g of heroin, 17,189 kg of cannabis, 3,865 kg of ICE, and nearly 4 million narcotic pills.”
