Committee Appointed to Investigate Assault on Boossa Prison Official

COLOMBO (News1st): A committee has been appointed to investigate the incident where two inmates of the Boossa High Security Prison assaulted the Assistant Superintendent of the prison. 

The Department of Prisons says that the committee includes a Prison Commissioner and a Superintendent.

The committee is tasked with investigating prison officers who allegedly aided and abetted the incident, as well as assessing damages to prison property.

Five prison guards who were arrested on charges of aiding and abetting the assault have been released on bail.

The assault occurred on the 7th of last month during a confrontation between prison officials and two inmates held in the prison's Special Section.

During the incident, the two inmates reportedly attacked the Assistant Superintendent.

Police further revealed that 55 CCTV cameras were also damaged during the unrest.
