COLOMBO (News1st): The gazette notification extending the state of emergency by another month was passed without a vote in Parliament today.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake declared a nationwide state of emergency on December 1, 2025, following the disaster situation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The declaration was aimed at ensuring public security, maintaining law and order, and guaranteeing the continuous supply of essential services to the public.
Following this, the President issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification extending the emergency regulations for another month.
This gazette was presented to Parliament today for approval.
A two-hour debate followed the presentation, during which politicians from both the government and the opposition shared their views before the measure was formally passed.
