COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former Minister Douglas Devananda has been detained for three days.
Police say that the detention was made under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Devananda was arrested yesterday by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) when he appeared before the CID to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation.
The arrest relates to an inquiry into the discovery of a pistol-type firearm, which had been legally issued to him by the Army, concealed in a forest area near a culvert in Weliweriya in 2019.
The investigation was initiated based on statements made by an organized criminal.
The CID is continuing further investigations into the matter.
