Third School Term Begins Today: 147 Disaster-Hit Schools to Remain Closed

COLOMBO (News 1st): The second phase of the third school term begins today.

Deputy Minister of Education Madhura Seneviratne stated that 147 schools in disaster-affected areas will remain closed until further notice.

However, schools will close again from December 22 to December 28 in view of Christmas.

Although schools are scheduled to reopen today, the Deputy Minister said that final decisions on reopening have been delegated to provincial and district authorities, depending on local conditions.

Meanwhile, students have been allowed to use their November SLTB bus season tickets during December as well.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board said the decision was taken considering the prevailing disaster situation.

Similarly, November railway season tickets will also remain valid for student travel in December.
