COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Council for Disaster Management has approved the construction of housing complexes for people who lost their homes due to the disaster and those living in high-risk landslide zones.
The Council met yesterday under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Minister of Housing and Water Supply, Dr. Susil Ranasinghe, said the National Housing Development Authority has been tasked with planning and implementing the housing projects to resettle affected families.
He added that District Secretaries and local authorities have briefed the Commissioner General of Essential Services on the number of houses required and on suitable alternative lands for resettlement in high-risk areas.
Accordingly, during yesterday’s meeting, the National Housing Development Authority and the Urban Development Authority were instructed to immediately commence the first phase of construction for those who lost their homes due to disasters and those in need of safer housing locations.
