COLOMBO (News 1st); The current administration has broadened the scope of the Presidential Fund, enabling citizens to access a wider range of benefits, according to Dr. Anil Jayantha, Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning.

Speaking at the Western Province ceremony of the Presidential Fund’s Advanced Level Excellence Recognition Program, held at Temple Trees under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, the Minister emphasized that the fund is no longer limited to emergency medical assistance as perceived in the past.

“Previously, the Presidential Fund was seen as a source for critical health needs—heart surgeries and similar emergencies. But under our government, we have expanded its application to cover multiple areas without restrictions. Our vision is simple: leave no one behind. We’ve ensured transparency and decentralized administration so that benefits reach people at the grassroots level,” Dr. Anil Jayantha said.

During the event, 361 top-performing Advanced Level students from the Western Province were recognized, with scholarships worth Rs. 36.1 million awarded under this initiative.

The Minister highlighted that the fund now operates with improved accessibility and accountability, allowing citizens to directly benefit from programs that uplift education and community development.
