Landslide Risk Persists: 15,000 Families Identified by NBRO

COLOMBO (News 1st);The National Building Research Organization says that 15,000 families living in landslide-prone areas have been identified.

Senior Geologist at the Landslide Research & Risk Management Division Wasantha Senadheera, said that the relevant families were informed of the risks after requests were received through Divisional Secretariats.

He added that a report issued in 2019 had classified the area that recently experienced a landslide in Kadugannawa as a medium-risk zone.

Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organisation says evacuation red notices remain in effect for ten Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Kandy and Kurunegala districts.

In the Kandy district, red notices are in force for the Divisional Secretariat divisions of Meda Dumbara, Patha Dumbara, Ganga Ihala Korale, Doluwa, Panwila, Delthota, Ududumbara, Minipe, and Uda Palatha.

In the Kurunegala district, a red notice has been issued for the Divisional Secretariat division of Ridigama.

Additionally, landslide warnings remain in effect for the districts of Badulla, Gampaha, Kegalle, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura.
