COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Water Supply states that the assessment of housing damage caused by the recent disaster will begin today (8th).
The assessments will be carried out by a committee established by the Presidential Secretariat.
The ministry announced that an allowance of Rs. 25,000 will be provided for the cleaning damaged houses.
While, a one-time payment of Rs. 50,000 will be granted per household for resettlement and the purchase of essential household appliances, regardless of house ownership.
For families that have completely lost their homes or livelihoods, financial assistance will be provided for up to three months, Families with two or fewer members will receive Rs. 25,000, while families with more than two family members will receive Rs. 50,000.
Futher, families without homes to resettle in will receive a monthly rental allowance of Rs. 25,000 for up to a maximum of six months.
