COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) reports significant progress in restoring electricity across disaster-hit regions, with 85% of the disrupted supply now back online.

According to Deputy General Manager Noel Priyantha, repair teams are working around the clock to reconnect remaining areas swiftly.

Priyantha confirmed that the recent devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah inflicted severe damage on the national power grid.

At the height of the crisis, 16,771 transformers were disconnected, many submerged under floodwaters. Of these, 14,549 have already been reconnected, marking a major milestone in recovery efforts.

CEB assures that all remaining breakdowns will be addressed promptly, as engineers and field teams continue to battle challenging conditions to restore power to every affected household.
