215 Severe Landslides: NBRO Says Failure To Evacuate Increased Fatalities

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) says 215 severe landslides have been reported over the past few days.

Senior Geologist Laksiri Indratissa stated that such landslides have been recorded across the Badulla, Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Kurunegala, and Monaragala districts.

He said the incidents have occurred along road networks and within villages.

However, authorities have not been able to access several landslide locations due to blocked access roads, fuel shortages, and power outages.

The NBRO also notes that failure to evacuate despite repeated warnings has contributed to an increase in fatalities from landslides.
