COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has announced that urgent measures are being implemented to restore water supply in several districts affected by recent floods and landslides.

The Board expects services to return to normal within two days.

Chairman Eng. A.M.P.C.T. Bandara confirmed that assistance from the Tri-Forces, the Irrigation Department, the Road Development Authority, and the Ceylon Electricity Board has been mobilized to expedite repairs and restoration.

Galle, Anuradhapura, Matale, and Ratnapura districts are already back to normal.

Despite widespread disruptions, major water sources in the Western Province—including Ambatale, Labugama, Kalatuwawa, and Biyagama—remain unaffected. The risk posed by the Kelani River overflow to water treatment plants and pumping stations has also subsided.

However, significant damage has been reported in Kandy District, where several treatment plants and pumping stations were submerged.

Water supply interruptions persist in parts of Tissamaharama, Kataragama, Badulla, Bandarawela, Welimada, Ampara, North Central, Northern, and North Western Provinces.

The NWSDB assures that all affected areas will be restored swiftly, with priority given to regions still facing severe shortages.
