Sri Lanka Flood Death Toll Rises To 212 & 218 Missing

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Disaster Management Center reports that the flood crisis gripping Sri Lanka has worsened, with 998,918 people from 273,606 families affected across 25 districts as of 4:00 p.m. today (30).

The death toll has climbed to 212, while 218 individuals remain missing, and thousands have been displaced.

Currently, 1,275 safety centers are operational, sheltering 51,228 families (180,499 people).

The hardest-hit districts include Gampaha (211,719 people), Colombo (174,255), and Puttalam (135,922), where floodwaters have inundated homes, roads, and critical infrastructure.

Mannar (79,946) and Badulla (32,760) also report severe impacts.

Authorities warn that the situation remains critical as rescue operations continue under challenging conditions.

The Sri Lanka Air Force and Navy are conducting aerial and ground missions to evacuate stranded individuals, while relief convoys race to deliver food, water, and medical supplies to affected communities.
