Landslide Derails Night Mail Train; Restoration Expected By Tomorrow Night, says Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st); Teams from the Disaster Management Centre of the Badulla District, together with officials from Sri Lanka Railways, have been deployed to clear the fallen earth debris and restore the railway track between Idalgashinna and Ohiya railway stations.

According to the Department of Railways, a mound of earth had collapsed onto the track along between Idalgashinna and Ohiya railway stations, disrupting train services along the upcountry railway line.

The Department of Railways said that the Calypso Tourist Train operating between Badulla - Demodara and Bandarawela today will operate as usual.

Meanwhile, the Udarata Manike and Podi Manike trains will operate from the Nanu Oya railway station to Colombo today.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake stated in Parliament today, that disruptions along the Up-Country railway line, caused by the landslip, will be cleared and restored by tomorrow night.
