Severe Lightning Alert Issued for Four Provinces

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber Advisory for Severe Lightning effective to 11:30 p.m. today (18 November 2025) for the North-western, Western, Southern, and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

According to the advisory, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely in these regions, with possible temporary localized strong winds during thunderstorms.

The public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

Action Required | The Department advises:

Seek shelter indoors and avoid staying under trees.

Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations, and water bodies during thunderstorms.

Avoid using wired telephones and electrical appliances.

Avoid open vehicles like bicycles, tractors, and boats.

Beware of fallen trees and power lines.
