COLOMBO (News 1st ); Under the ‘Praja Shakthi’ National Programme, the Government has allocated one million rupees each to all District and Divisional Secretariat Offices to strengthen their digitalisation capacity.
The funds will be used to procure essential IT hardware such as laptops and computers, as well as to build the digital skills of officers.
Efforts are currently in progress to establish a fully digital public service by replacing outdated systems and equipment.
The programme is expected to be expanded across all public institutions islandwide.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy, Rs. 369 million has been set aside to modernise district and regional administrative mechanisms—marking the first time direct funding has been provided to enhance regional information technology capabilities.
The government also plans to increase annual budget allocations to further strengthen digital operations in state institutions.
Additionally, development project proposals and progress reviews under the Praja Shakthi programme will now be managed through a digital platform, which was launched recently.
This system aims to ensure efficient implementation of rural and regional development initiatives with greater transparency and accessibility for the public.
