COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Council for Road Safety says that there is an increase in road accidents this year compared to last year.
Its chairman, Manjula Kularatne, says that reckless driving, high speed, and the poor condition of roads have been the cause of the increased number of accidents.
The National Council for Road Safety stated that between six thousand and eight thousand individuals are disabled annually due to road accidents.
Meanwhile, an individual who was seriously injured in an accident at the Kiwula junction in Hungama on the Matara-Tissa main road has succumbed to his injuries.
43 people were injured in the accident, which occurred when a bus and a tipper truck collided.
It has also been revealed that the bus accident that took place in Talawa on the 10th of November was a result of excessive speed.
A 17-year-old school student died as result of the accident, and 46 others were reportedly injured.
