COLOMBO (News 1st):The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government has stated that when state institutions and officials seek advice or opinions from the Attorney General, they must provide a clear explanation for doing so.
In a circular, Secretary S. Aloka Bandara emphasized that a statement of facts containing complete details of the relevant matter should also be submitted.
If an official letter file is included, the Secretary noted that the relevant page references must be indicated.
S. Aloka Bandara highlighted that although procedures for requesting advice or opinions from the Attorney General are already outlined, the Attorney General has observed that requests are often made outside these provisions, and matters on which advice has already been provided are repeatedly submitted.
Therefore, the Secretary stressed that when seeking advice or opinions from the Attorney General, the provisions of the Establishment Code must be strictly followed.
