One Dead, Six Injured in Southern Expressway Accident

COLOMBO (News 1st): A woman was killed and six others were injured in an accident that occurred early this morning on the Southern Expressway.

Police said the incident took place between the Gelanigama and Kahathuduwa interchanges, when a van traveling from Galle towards Kadawatha collided with the rear of a lorry moving ahead.

At the time of the accident, eight people, including the driver, were traveling in the van.

According to police, four of the injured were admitted to the Homagama Hospital, while three children were transferred to the Kalubowila Hospital.

Police further confirmed that a 35-year-old woman from the Weerapana area, who was among those admitted to the Homagama Hospital, had succumbed to her injuries.
