Legal Action for Candidates Who Did Not Submit Income & Expenditure Reports

COLOMBO (News 1st): The reports related to the prosecution of five candidates who failed to submit their income and expenditure reports for the 2024 Presidential Election have been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department.

The Election Commission (EC) said the reports were sent to seek the Attorney General’s guidance on possible legal action.

Under the Election Expenditure Regulation Act No. 3 of 2023, all candidates are required to submit detailed income and expenditure reports.

The Commission further instructed the police to take action against 13 other individuals who also failed to submit the required reports.

The commission added, that statements from the relevant candidates have been recorded while the matter has been referred to the court.
