Vijitha Herath Fires Back: Kachchatheevu Belongs to Sri Lanka—Full Stop!

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath has firmly reiterated that Kachchatheevu Island belongs to Sri Lanka, dismissing recent remarks made during election campaigns in South India, including those by Indian actor Vijay.

“There is election fever in South India,” Herath said. “So, on their election stages, candidates will say various things to secure their votes. This is not the first time this has happened. Similar things have been said during previous elections as well.”

Herath emphasized that Sri Lanka’s position remains unchanged, regardless of political statements made across the Palk Strait. “The decisions we take won’t be changed based on what is said on election stages over there,” he added.

Responding directly to actor Vijay’s comments made during an election rally, Herath stated, “There is no change in the stance of the government. Kachchatheevu will forever belong to Sri Lanka.”
