Canadian Woman Nabbed With Drugs Worth Rs. 181 Mn

COLOMBO (News 1st); A Canadian national was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for attempting to smuggle a large quantity of hashish into the country.

The suspect, a woman who had arrived from Montreal via Doha, was apprehended upon arrival at the airport. 

Customs officers discovered 18,123 grams of hashish concealed within her luggage, with an estimated street value of Rs. 181 million.

Initial investigations are being carried out by the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs. 

Authorities stated that the suspect and the seized narcotics will be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further legal proceedings and in-depth investigation.
