Sri Lanka Navy Arrests Seven Indian Fishermen for Illegal Fishing Near Delft Island

COLOMBO (News 1st): Seven Indian fishermen have been arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy during a special search operation carried out in the waters off Delft Island.

The fishermen, who are residents of Rameshwaram, India, were apprehended for engaging in fishing activities in violation of Sri Lanka’s maritime boundaries.

According to the Navy, the suspects and their boat will be handed over to the Kankesanturai Fisheries Harbour for further legal action.

Over the past year alone, the Navy has arrested 181 Indian fishermen and seized 24 fishing vessels for similar maritime boundary violations.
