Two Bodies Recovered After Fishing Vessel Collision off Devinuwara, Matara

COLOMBO (News 1st) -Two bodies of fishermen have been recovered following a tragic maritime accident involving a fishing vessel off the coast of Devinuwara, Matara.

The Sri Lanka Navy carried out the recovery operation earlier today.

Director General of the Department of Fisheries, Susantha Kahawatta, confirmed that one more fisherman remains missing, and that naval teams are continuing search and rescue operations in the area.

One fisherman who was aboard the vessel was rescued and has been admitted to Karapitiya Hospital for treatment.

However, no updates have been received yet regarding another fisherman who was also onboard at the time of the incident.

According to initial reports, the multi-day fishing vessel is believed to have collided with a merchant ship early this morning. This information was reportedly shared by the survivor who was rescued.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the incident.
