COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath met with the Ambassador of Iran to discuss the evolving situation in the Middle East and its implications for Sri Lanka and the broader region.

During the meeting, Minister Herath welcomed the recent announcement of a ceasefire and emphasized the critical need for sustained diplomatic engagement to ensure long-term peace and stability. He cautioned that any further escalation could have wide-reaching consequences, not only for the region but also for countries like Sri Lanka.

Herath also briefed the Ambassador on the proactive measures taken by the Government of Sri Lanka to safeguard Sri Lankan nationals currently residing in Iran, reaffirming the country’s commitment to the safety and welfare of its citizens abroad.
