COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Dengue Control Unit has reported 15 dengue-related deaths so far this year, as the country continues to battle a surge in cases.

According to Consultant Community Physician Dr. Prashola Samaraweera, a total of 27,702 dengue cases have been recorded island-wide.

The Western Province has reported the highest number of infections, with 4,702 cases.

Dr. Samaraweera noted that Sri Lanka is currently seeing an average of approximately 1,300 new dengue cases per week.

In response to the rising threat, health authorities will launch a nationwide mosquito eradication campaign from June 30 to July 5.
