COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Lands and Irrigation has announced plans to digitize operations related to agriculture, irrigation, and land management in Sri Lanka.
According to Deputy Minister Susil Ranasinghe, a preliminary discussion on the digitization initiative was held yesterday, marking the beginning of a broader effort to modernize these critical sectors.
As part of the program, data and information from the relevant sectors will be integrated into a centralized digital system.
This will help streamline planning, monitoring, and implementation of various projects across the country.
Deputy Minister Ranasinghe stated that, with the implementation of this initiative, the government aims to launch several new projects by the end of next year.
Among the planned initiatives are 10 new irrigation projects, the introduction of an insurance scheme for farmers, and the allocation of 500 land plots. In total, 25 new development projects are expected to be rolled out under this modernization drive.
