COLOMBO (News 1st); Ramith Rambukwella, son of former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, was remanded until June 3rd following his appearance before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court..
Ramith Rambukwella, was arrested this morning (21) after providing a statement to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
He was later produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded until June 3.
The arrest follows a court order issued yesterday, requiring Ramith to appear before the Commission in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation. He has been named the second suspect in a case involving the alleged misuse of over Rs. 8 million in public funds.
The charges stem from a period between 2021 and 2023, during which Keheliya Rambukwella served as Minister of Mass Media, Health, and Environment. Investigations have revealed that several close associates were appointed to his personal staff and unlawfully granted allowances, resulting in significant financial losses to the state.
Keheliya Rambukwella was also produced before court yesterday and similarly remanded until June 3rd.
