Navy Nabs Smuggled Ginger and Cardamom in Kalpitiya Lagoon

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Navy seized a dinghy carrying approximately 320 kilograms of dried ginger and 150 kilograms of cardamom in the Rodapadu Lagoon area of Kalpitiya, during the weekend.

The operation was conducted by SLNS Vijaya in the Northwestern Naval Area as part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal maritime trade. 

Naval personnel, acting on suspicion, intercepted and searched the dinghy, uncovering 12 sacks filled with the contraband items.

The seized goods, suspected to have been smuggled into the country, were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for further legal action.
