Nine Including IUSF Convener Released on Bail

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Nine individuals, including Madhushan Chandrajith, the convener of the Inter-University Students' Federation (IUSF), have been released on bail after being produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The group was arrested yesterday for staging a protest opposite the Ministry of Health in violation of a court order. 

The protest was staged by members of the IUSF and the Joint Health Sciences Graduates' Union.

Earlier in the day, Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama issued an order, following a request by the Acting OIC of the Maradana Police, prohibiting Madhushan Chandrajith and others from entering Colombo Hospital Square, the Ministry of Health, and surrounding roads to conduct any protests. 

The order remains in effect until 5 p.m. today.
