Six Proposals To Enter Sri Lankan Parliament Today

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan Parliament is set to debate six private member bills today (9).

Among the proposals is a bill by MP Hesha Vithanage, aimed at revising and rationalizing the privileges currently extended to former state leaders, their spouses, and parliamentary representatives. 

MP Rohana Bandara is expected to present a proposal calling for an enhanced government intervention program to streamline the import and distribution of essential food items, in response to economic challenges.

In a move to improve public transportation standards, MP Ravindra Bandara will propose legislation mandating that only buses meeting specific standards be imported into the country.

MP Lal Premanath is set to introduce a proposal to repurpose underutilized or abandoned buildings—originally constructed under various development projects—for public use.

Another proposal, from MP Chaminda Wijesiri, focuses on implementing recommendations made in audit reports.

Finally, MP Ravi Karunanayake is expected to table a proposal advocating for a national housing initiative aimed at providing every Sri Lankan family with a home.
