Democracy Like UK, But No One’s Voting – Ranil

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe cast his vote this morning at the polling center located at the University of Colombo.

Following his visit, Wickremesinghe made candid remarks about the state of voter participation and the broader democratic process.

“We now have a very advanced democratic system like in the UK. But no one is coming to vote,” he said, highlighting the apparent lack of public engagement in the electoral process.

When asked whether he believed voter turnout was low, Wickremesinghe confirmed:

“Yes, it’s low. I went alone. In some places, there are about 15,000 candidates. And there are 17 million voters. That means there’s a candidate for every 200 voters.”
