Custodial Death in Kosgoda Under Investigation

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya has directed the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Southern Province to launch an investigation into the sudden death of a 28-year-old youth while in police custody in Kosgoda.

The youth, a resident of Kosgoda, had been arrested on May 1 on suspicion of drug possession. 

According to police, he suddenly fell ill while being taken to court yesterday and died en route to the hospital.

His body has been placed at the Balapitiya Hospital for further examination.
