Court Orders Fresh Postmortem in Welikada Custody Death Case

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Magistrate's Court has ordered the exhumation of the body of a 26-year-old youth who died while in police custody at the Welikada Police Station. 

The court has instructed the Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo to conduct a fresh postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident. 

He has also instructed that an interim report be submitted by April 25, 2025.
