Drug Investigation Leads to Firearm Discovery in Ragama

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A T-56 firearm and 113 rounds of ammunition were discovered hidden in a house in Heenkenda, Ragama, following an investigation into a woman's arrest in Wattala.

Police received information last morning about a woman allegedly attempting suicide at a lodge on Hekitta Road, Wattala. Upon arrival, officers found the woman unconscious in the bathroom and recovered 6 grams and 100 milligrams of the drug Ice from her possession.

During questioning, police learned that the woman was closely associated with a drug dealer residing abroad. She revealed that the firearm and ammunition had been given to her for safekeeping. The weapons were later found in the residence of her second husband in Ragama.

The 40-year-old suspect and the 35-year-old woman have been arrested, and further investigations are underway.
